Youth Rugby Program - Fall 2016

The Wrentham Youth Rugby program is for boys and girls in Grades K-8 and the Fall season will begin on Sunday September 18th, 2016.  Practices are on Sunday mornings from 9AM to 10:30AM, with the K thru 2nd grade players practicing from 9am to 10am.  We play at the Rice Complex on Emerald Street, on the fields located behind the basketball courts.

Our Coaching staff has completed USA Rugby Level 200 certification, and promote Safety as Rule #1.  Our players are coached to be respectful to one another and we strive to create an environment that lets them thoroughly enjoy the game as they learn the skills to be successful on the rugby pitch.

Under the guidelines of the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization (MYRO), the program involves a well thought out balance of skills training (basic rules, ball handling, passing, etc.). For safety sake, grades K thru 6th play flag only with no tackling introduced until 7th grade.   Because of the ranges in age, build and skill, there will be at least 3 distinct age groups training and developing their skills throughout the season.

Players are required to wear a mouth guard and should wear what they would normally wear for soccer.  The fee includes a shirt.  Plans for the Fall season will focus on skills building and all practices will be on our home field with no travel for games.  This season is a great opportunity for players new to the game to learn how to play as well as players progressing to the next level to build on their skills prior to the competitive Spring season.
