Description

In the public health arena, the Board assesses the status of public health in Wrentham, develops policy in areas where there are problems and assures that needs are being met. In this area, the Board's Public Health Nurse department provides a variety of services to all town residents that include training of new mothers in caring for their infants, various clinics to monitor wellness(e.g. blood pressure and cholesterol screening, etc), general education about promoting healthy behaviors, care of the sick and infirm of all ages, and so on.

The Board is a regulatory Board and is often called upon to enforce regulations against violators to protect public health and the environment. Examples of enforcement action include condemning dwellings, closing restaurants, enforcing regulations against sale of tobacco to minors or against smoking in public spaces, closing beaches and wells because of contamination, ensuring that septic systems and stormwater runoff controls are properly designed, constructed and operated, and so on.
