Council on Aging
Description
The purpose of the Council is to identify the needs of Wrentham residents age 60 and over and provide a variety of services and programs to meet those needs. The Council consists of seven members appointed by the Board of Selectmen. A wide range of activities and services are provided for you at the Senior Center. OUTREACH - Most Senior Citizens are to be complimented in that they manage their own affairs very well. There are times, however, when help may be required to solve some of the problems of growing older or to obtain some of the services to which they are entitled. Please call our Outreach Worker with any questions or concerns you may have. REASSURANCE LINE - The C.O.A. has been operating a Reassurance Line for many years. This program eases the concern of friends and family who may find it difficult to maintain consistent, reliable contact. It also gives the senior peace of mind to know someone is making sure they are all right, seven days a week. Daily contact with seniors is accomplished by volunteers who call them every morning to check on them and make sure they are OK. SENIOR CENTER LUNCH PROGRAM - A noonday meal is available at the Senior Center Monday - Friday. Sponsored by HESSCO Elder Services, the meals program provides good nutrition and an opportunity to socialize. Home delivered meals are also available to those who qualify. TRANSPORTATION SERVICES - The Senior Center has a bus and a van, both are handicapped accessible. These vehicles are used to take seniors to the Senior Center, shopping, errands and Wrentham doctor and dentist appointments. You must call the Senior Center in advance to make a reservation. A medical or dental appointment requires at least a three-day advance notice. For any transportation needs outside of our traveling area, we now have the GATRA dial-a-ride service. Please call the Center for more information. MONTHLY NEWSLETTER- A bi-monthly newsletter is mailed to all Wrentham Seniors age 60 and over. If you do not receive our newsletter and live in Wrentham, please call the Senior Center @ 508-384-5425 to have a newsletter sent to your home.

SNAP PROGRAM (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) Many seniors must make a choice between life-saving medications and groceries. Fortunately, SNAP is available to seniors who meet certain financial guidelines. A discreet 2 page application is all that is required and if you meet the guidelines, you may be eligible to receive assistance for the purchase of groceries. This program works like a debit or credit card that you swipe at the check-out counter. If you or someone you know could use a little help, please call Fran Padula at the Senior Center or DTA 1-800-249-2007 WRENTHAM PUBLIC HEALTH NURSES - PNEUMONIA VACCINE The Public Health Nurses are offering Pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine. It is recommended for adults 65 years of age and older as well as for people who are 65 and older who received their first dose when they were younger than 65 and it has been 5 or more years since the first dose. It is also recommended for people who have a disease or condition that lowers the body's resistance to infection, and/or anyone who is a smoker or has asthma. Tetanus vaccine is also available. All adults should receive a booster every 10 years. Please call the Nurses' office at 508-384-5485 for information.
